The Lady Titans JV kicked off a three-game week with a win at Titan Fieldhouse Monday night, 53-41 over a tough North Knox team. Gibson Southern used a stifling defensive effort and a dominating performance on the glass to overcome the very quick and athletic Lady Warriors. The Lady Titans forced 22 turnovers and out-rebounded North Knox 39-21, limiting North Knox to just 5 offensive rebounds and just 4 second-chance points on the night.
Gibson Southern was in control for the majority of the game, leading 10-5 after one quarter and 27-13 at the half. After building the lead to 20 midway through the third quarter, the Lady Titans saw North Knox put together a nice comeback that trimmed the lead to nine points with a little over a minute remaining. But, that was as close as the Lady Warriors would get, as Ryleigh Williamson hit a free throw and a layup to put the game away in the final minute.
The Lady Titans were led by a strong game from Alex Holmes, who posted her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Holmes added 3 steals and 3 deflections. Alexis Tucker led all scorers with 19 points and added 7 rebounds of her own. Tucker also had 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Maddie Kautzman was the final Lady Titan in double figures with 10 points and led the team with 5 assists. Ally Malone played a balanced game at the point scoring 4 points, pulling down 6 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Sydney Long led the team with 4 deflections and drew a charging foul, which is always a momentum-booster!
Due to foul trouble and an injury, Gibson Southern had to turn to the bench and got some quality minutes from Hallee McGill, Abby Deal, and Makenna Turner tonight.
The scoring attack was rounded out by Williamson (3), McGill (2) and Long (2).
The Lady Titans return to action Tuesday night at South Spencer.
